Measuring Tips

The following are some tips for measuring for your hardwood flooring. If you have any doubts about how to get a correct measurement, we will be glad to assist you.

Example: 14 x 13 room bay window and closet

Main room: Multiply length (13 ft) x width (14 ft) to get square footage:
182
Bay window: Treat the bay window as if it were rectangular: 13 x 2:
26
Closet: 7 x 2:
14
Total (before waste):
222
Allow 5% waste factor:
11
Total square feet needed:
233

If your room measures 14 1/2 ft x 13 1/4 ft, always round up to 15 ft x 14 ft.
It's better to have wood left over than to have to delay your project because of a shortage.
